The following steps will show you an easy way to grade only the essay questions in a quiz.

Quizzes may contain a mix of automatically-graded and manually-graded questions (essay-type).  CampusNet has a simple way of viewing and grading just the manually graded questions.

Start here:

1. Log in to CampusNet and open the course you want to edit.

2. Find the quiz or exam you wish to grade, and click its name.

3. In the screen that opens click the Actions menu gear icon on the right and select Manual grading.

4. The screen that opens will show only the questions that need grading manually.  [There is a control at the top that allows you to show and hide the automatically-graded questions also, which allows you to see info on all the questions, if desired]. The screen will show a list of question numbers that are of the essay type, with each row showing the number of questions that need to be manually graded under the To grade column.

5. To grade all of these, start with the first row and click the "grade" link in this To grade column.

6. Check the Options at the top and set:

  1. Attempts to grade to Those that need grading
  2. Order attempts should be set to something other than Randomly (for example: By student's last name)
  3. Click Change options

7. The screen will now show only the answers from students that haven't been manually graded.  You can review each and assign the number of points you give the answer.  When done, click the Save and go to next page button.

8. When you are done, you will be taken back to the Manual grading summary screen.  [Note: If you are only partially finished, you can go back by clicking the "Back to the list of questions" link at the top].

9. When the To grade column shows 0 for all questions, grading is done.

10. If for some reason you need to adjust any grades, use the update grades or grade all links that are in the columns.
