CampusNet provides two ways to insert a link to an online resource (video, web page, etc) in your course:

  - A URL resource icon, which can have a description below the link

  - A Label, which inserts a link into selected words in text on the course page

The two methods are explained below:

NOTE: Click the question mark bubbles when editing your course for more detailed information for the various settings.

Creating a link using a URL resource:

1. Log in to CampusNet, click the Menu pull-down and select My Courses and go to the course page you want to edit.

2. Click the gear icon at the top right and click Turn editing on

3. Scroll down to the section you want to change and click Add an activity or resource.

4. Under Resources, select URL and click the Add button.

5. Type in the Name, which will show beside the URL icon, and, if desired, a Description which will show below the icon if you click the "Display description on course page" check box.

6. In the External URL field paste in a URL of the video or web page you want to show when the link is clicked (more info):

  1. If you want to link to a Panopto video you have, go to your Panopto folder (in another browser tab), hover your mouse over the video and click the Share icon that appears.  In the next screen, copy the URL that shows just below the Link | Embed title on the Share screen.
  2. Return to the URL resource page in your course and paste the URL into the External URL field.  [Note: The URL you paste into this field can be for any online resource you want: video, web page, etc.]
  3. If you would like to force the resource to appear in a pop-up window, go to the Appearance section and change Display to In pop-up.
  4. Click the Save and return to course button to return to your course page to see the embedded URL resource you just added.  Clicking the URL icon or Name text should open up the video or web page.

Creating a link using a Label resource:

1. Log in to CampusNet, click the Menu pull-down and select My Courses and go to the course page you want to edit.

2. Click the gear icon at the top right and click Turn editing on

3. Scroll down to the section you want to change and click Add an activity or resource.

4. Under Resources, select Label and click the Add button.

5. In the Label text field type in the text you want to put on the course page:

For example: To see my lecture video click here

[Note that you can use the rich text controls for highlights as desired].

6. Now using your mouse, select the word or phrase where you want the link embedded

For example: To see my lecture video click here.

7. While this is highlighted click the Insert/edit link icon above the text field.  (This will pop up a new settings window).

8. Copy and paste the URL that you want to display into the Link URL field in the pop-up window as follows:

  1. If you want to link to a Panopto video you have, go to your Panopto folder (in another browser tab), hover your mouse over the video and click the Share icon that appears.  In the next screen, copy the URL that shows just below the Link | Embed title on the Share screen.
  2. Return to the Insert/edit link pop-up in your course and paste the URL into the Link URL field. [Note: The URL you paste into this field can be for any online resource you want: video, web page, etc.]
  3. We strongly suggest that for the best result you change the Target setting to "Open in new window".
  4. Click Insert to embed your link into the text phrase you selected in step 6.
  5. Click the Save and return to course button to return to your course page to see the text you entered.  Clicking the word or phrase you selected for the link (the word "here" in the step 6 example) should open up the video or web page in a new browser tab.
